Preparing for your Maternity session

Preparing for your Maternity session

Thank you for booking your maternity photos with me, I know that there are a number of choices available to you and I want you to know that I appreciate your decision to book with me.

I am looking forward to your session, I have tried to include as much information as possible here, however if you have any questions at all please feel free to contact me.

Due to the vagaries of Otago weather your maternity session will take place either at my warm and comfy studio at our small farm in Taieri Mouth, or at a nearby location (beach, farm, forest, bush, lake - loads of options!).

I will ask you to come to the studio first to try on some gowns (if you wish to use some) then if you have booked a standard maternity session we will go to our location (could be just outside in our park-like garden or it could be at a nearby beach) we then return to the studio for some more formal studio shots. This way of working gives us lots of options no matter what the weather is doing.

I have attached directions to the studio further on in this info guide, please check these and print them out or copy and paste to your phone notes.

Planning your session:

  • Please share your thoughts and ideas with me. I send a questionnaire to help me plan your session, but I would LOVE your input. If you have an idea for a prop set up please talk to me about it.

What to bring:

  • Hairbrush, make up for touch ups

  • Shoes depending on the session - heels for a glamorous session, slip on shoes for the beach

  • Underwear - please wear plain, seamless underwear. If you want to show your bump please also bring your favourite set of matching bra and undies or a bikini.

  • A jacket or blanket for outdoor sessions.

  • Any props or special items you would like included in your photos.

  • Please ensure that your clothing looks the way you want it to in photos, I cannot photoshop creases, bra straps etc. You are welcome to wear one of my gowns or boho style dresses.

What if:

  • The weather is bad? We shoot in the studio and we can get some shots in the tree tunnels and the garden if possible. Between April and October we always start at the studio to avoid postponing sessions.

  • I feel fat and frumpy! You are pregnant, you are exhausted, it's fine. The session won't take too long, I will direct you in how to pose, and I will ensure that your photos are beautiful.

  • I want nude photos? The studio is private and there is a seperate area for changing. We can create beautiful nude images in the studio.

During the session:

  • I will guide you (and your family) gently into comfortable poses and direct you where to look.

  • I will listen to you so that you can get the images you are wanting

  • The session doesn't take long (there's only so many ways you can arrange your hands on your belly!) and the fear usually subsides within a minute or two.

AFTER THE SESSION

After your session, I will get to work on culling your images down to the very best of the best  images, then editing those images and getting them up into your gallery, where you can choose the images you want.

Directions to my studio

Taieri Mouth is approximately a half hour drive from Dunedin or Balclutha, you can take the coast road from Dunedin (which is very pretty) or the main highway.

We are at 113 Chaplin Road Taieri Mouth.

Chaplin Rd is halfway between Waihola and Taieri Mouth, off Finlayson Rd (the main rd between Waihola and T Mouth) if you programme 813 Finlayson Rd into your maps app, Chaplin Road is straight across the road.

Please do not turn off Finlayson Road onto any other road but Chaplin.

So, you are on Chaplin Rd - we are about 1.13 km straight down the road, there's a sign outside that says "Copperhead Farm", drive down to the house and I'll meet you there!
